Term Project

Introduction
In
order to achieve successfully this new phase of the Ana Dias Project,
the students were entirely engaged by the organization and planning of
second field trip to Itariri and Ana Dias district.
Previously to this trip, and in order to give the necessary
continuity to the project, there was a real concern in preparing
the students so as they could research and collect information and
data as much as possible.
Accomplished PhasesUrbanization
Group
Before undertanking the trip, the students were able to collect
information pertaining to the following problems:
-garbage recycling;
-selective waste collecting;
-the town traffic and the signalizing of public roads
The systemized their research and alaborated a list of questions for
further interviews.
Once on the sight, they visited the Monhamgaba workshop, where banana
stalks are recycled for artifact purposes. They also also visited a
factory of drained banana. At the City Hall. they requested a copy of the
organic fertilizer factory´s proAs to the town traffic and sinalizing
public roads problem, they were informed that a professional has already
been hired to elaborate project.
Culture Group
This group was sub-divised into three smaller ones and each was in
charge of the following topics: leisure, communication and the history of
the region. They selected questions to be asked to the local population.
Once in Itariri, they visited the Monhamgaba workshop, the Sao Benedito
Chapel, where they were told about region legends. They also took part of
the traditional June festival and participated of folk music and dancing.
They interviewed the oldest japanese immigrant, settled in the region
since 1932.
Caiçara Group
The students organized the field trip elaborating questions for
further interviews with the local caiçara community, tourist, and with
City Hall staff. Previously to the trip they also set up a "caiçara dinner",
selected menu.
Once on the sigth, they interviewed the Country Secretary of Agriculture,
who informed them about the proceedings of financing to large fisherman
and subsides to small ones.
Interviewing caiçaras, who make a living from fishing, the students were
given information about the difficulties met by them in order their
working equipament safely and properly, since they never received the
subsidies they are entitled to.
The students prepared the dinner, and together with the local community,
the group took part of a dancing party to the sound of local folk music.
Jureia Group
The group organized the field trip giving a special attention to the
Guaraú Mangrove. Once on the sigth, they undertook a research about
native plants and animal wildlife. They also talked over about some town
improvements such as, new leisure options, implantation of novelties
stores and the production of mini albums divulging local artifacts
produced by Itariri population.
Tourism Group
This group angled its work on two points: 1)
observation of tourist spots and their characteristics, names, distances,
access difficulties, risks, and proper clothing; 2) elaboration of a
tourist manual.
During the field trip, they observed and recorded
the main tourist spots. In order to understand better the local population
necessities they contacted and interviewed many local inhabitants.
Agriculture Group
In order to obtain some benefits from the agro
industrial residues, the group undertook a theoretical research about
economically practicable options.
Once on the sight, they interviewed local town inhabitants about:
- local banana and its sub products consumption
- the local population economic links to banana production
- the population interest in artifacts produced in Itariri.
They managed to visit two local banana producers - large and small - and
were able to notice and understand the differences between them. They
interviewed an agriculture technician who informed them about local agro
industrial production.
Serra do Mar Group
The main objective of this field trip was to explore
the Serra do Mar region and collect information and data for a
hypothetical project elaborated by the group: a control plan of the State
Serra do Mar Park, located in the Mata Atlantica.
Once on the sight, they were very much impressed by the Park extension and
by the very small staff in charge of its inspection and control. They were
also able to verify illegal constructions, cable TV antennac, clearing of
land by burning and lumber cut. They were fully informed about changes
occurred due to predatory hunting and illegal palm tree extraction.
In order to produce a scale model, the drew a sketch of the main
importants spots of the region.
Conclusion
All group were able to obtain highly successful
results from this second field trip. On every moment, local inhabitants of
the many visited sights were receptive to the investigation conducted by
our students. Helpful andpatient, all interviewed were willing to provide
the students with the needed information, trying to clarify their
inquiries and questionings. They also demonstrated a very high interest by
the project and a pre willingness in a future partnership.
